I’m just going to start off by saying that this isn’t actually a haul. It’s a ‘What I got for Christmas’ but I’m ashamed to tell you that because it’s almost March and I wrote this up months ago and forgot I had, so please just pretend you’re reading this two months ago because I’m a shit person. Okay so I’m late … what’s new? Christmas seems like a distant memory now that we are in the midst of a particularly bleak Winter and my motivation do to anything that doesn’t include laying under my furry blanket or in a Lush infused bath is zero to none.
I’ll start by saying I was very, very spoilt this Christmas by my family and my partner, which is handy as I’m also very, very skint and want to cry every time I get a January Sales email (I’m looking at you BeautyBay).
However, me waiting so long to tell you all about what I got means that i can also give mini reviews as I’ve had time to give them a bit of love and let you know what I think, I will be doing full reviews on some of the items so keep an eye out if you’re interested!
Natasha Denona Star Palette
I actually can’t believe that I own this, I spent a few days just getting it out and looking at it before I could muster up the strength to use it. Initially, the colour scheme doesn’t jump up at you but it’s a very wearable palette and can be taken day-to-night, warm-to-cool and there is so many colour combinations to choose from. But…. the formula… I knew it was good, but I didn’t know it was this good. Even the shittiest makeup artist could blend an eye look to perfection with this palette, it’s literally like cheating and the shadows do all of the work for you. I’m already eyeing up the Sunset palette and the Lila palette for my next splurge.
I’m so late on the Fenty bandwagon and I literally have no excuse for it. I asked for a few Fenty bits from my parents for Christmas and they massively delivered. I really wanted to try the Matchstix and the Stunna Lip Paints and then I was surprised by Trophy Wife and The Moroccan Spice Palette!
I’ll talk about the palette first, this packaging is stunning, if I wasn’t so messy and you could actually see the surface of my dressing table I’d have it on display 24/7. The colour scheme is gorgeous, I’ll be honest and say I’ve only played with this once as I’ve been so besotted with the Star palette, but I’m going to try to use it more over the next couple of weeks.
Next I got the Matchstix Set in Medium. The formula of these is lovely, really creamy and smooth, it doesn’t sit in your fine lines or cling to imperfections at all. I’ve been using the Bamboo Shade as a concealer and it’s really lovely, Mocha as a contour is nice but I tend to go for more warmth than depth on myself but I’ll definitely get good use out of it in my kit as I don’t own anything else like it. The next shade Trippin’ is lovely, it reminds me of MAC Rubenesce paint pot and I can’t wait to use this in the summer.
I also was lucky enough to get the famous Trophy Wife highlighter, at the moment I’m pale as fuck so this highlighter is a tad too dark for me at the moment (looks like a literal gold streak across my face) however on the eyes it’s gorgeous, but again it won’t be making it’s way down to my cheekbones for a good 5 months.
Last but not least, I got the Stunna Lip Paint in Uncuffed. This very quickly become my favourite formula of liquid lip paint, beating out Too Faced and Lime Crime upon application. The formula is so pigmented and lightweight you need to use the tiniest bit for full coverage and once it’s on it will last all day. The formula is so thin, you feel like your lips are bare, and when it does wear away with eating and drinking it gradually fades away so you don’t end up with a two tone lip. Will definitely be purchasing the rest.
Ofra Boho Palette
This is my first item from Ofra, and I’m totally infatuated I can’t believe I haven’t tired it sooner! This palette is now a staple in my kit, as well as my every day makeup (hello Rodeo Drive!!)
I’ll be honest and say I haven’t touched the eye shadows yet, but the highlighters, the bronzer and the blush are divine. The Rodeo Drive highlighter is so stunning I want to bathe in it and the bronzer is quickly beating out my Bobbi Brown Natural Bronzer as my all-time fave.
Marc Jacobs Fantacine Palette
Again, another first for me. I’d been eyeing this up since my birthday in July and finally laid eyes on it when my lovely boyfriend got it for me for Christmas. The packaging is so sleek and classy and the formula is beautiful. I need to play with this more before I can go into it in detail but it’s an all-rounder so far.
Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel
Can you believe it? I’m a makeup artist who is just using Chanel beauty for the first time, I’m a fraud. I’ve wanted this since I saw Fleur De Force say she liked it back in what must have been 2012 as I was definitely still at school, however other things always took priority over this. But this year I asked my boyfriend for it for Christmas (he did well didn’t he?!). I really love this as it’s so soft and creamy, and you get loads of product too. I love a natural bronzed look and this makes it effortless only problem is that I can’t see it being suitable for any skin tones darker than mine, I doubt I’ll be going back to Benefit Hoola Stick any time soon now that I have this.
All in all, I’m incredibly fortunate to have been spoilt so much by my loved ones, I couldn’t have asked for a better Holiday Season with better people and my heart is as full as my makeup drawers.
I hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas and New Year, I’d love to know what makeup you got too!x
